Very trivial, but news nevertheless. The following was sent over by the CPL to let us know that they've changed the name of their summer event to reflect the fact that Intel are their main sponsors:"The 'CPL Summer Championship' has been renamed to the 'Pentium 4 Summer Championship Event' to emphasize that Intel Corporation is now the leading sponsor of the event. This massive five-day event will take place at the Hyatt Regency Dallas hotel, starting Saturday, July 20 through Wednesday, July 24, 2002 and has over 3,100 people registered from 67 different countries."For more information visit - www.thecpl.com/summer/

Actually not that trivial, seems quite a big deal to me. Removing the 'CPL' name from the title of the organisation's main event does not give out good signals. I suspect the CPL rely on Intel so much they have had to bend over backwards to keep the money coming in.
The problem is, to Joe Avg onlooker, there is no such thing as the CPL, just a big Intel computer games competition.
Make no mistake, the CPL did not sell their competition title cheaply to Intel, and I'm sure they would not have done it unless they absolutely had to. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
