I just received this by email and I'll quote directly as Wizzo explains it the best:Hi everyone,It would surely be a great pity if the event was to be cancelled so for any of you pondering over whether or not to attend, be sure to make your decision sharpish and hopefully we wont have 500 disappointed gamers. The following important announcement just went up on the MPUK site regarding i11. If you were hoping/planning to go to this event, then you need to pay soon to ensure it still goes ahead, otherwise it is likely to be cancelled:
----
With the dates for i11 just 2 weeks away now, I'm afraid to say the numbers for this event aren't looking too good. Whatever the reasons, be it exams or World Cup, the signups just don't seem to be coming in. This gives us a dilemma: Do we run the event or cancel it? At the present number of paid people (67) we would have no option to cancel it.However, we have until first thing Monday morning to take this decision, so it's only fair that we tell you all what the criteria are for the running of the event. We love doing LANs, and are prepared to run at bare breakeven using a smaller number of rooms at Newbury, cutting costs right down wherever we can. Even doing this, we need a bare minimum of 240 people paid up by first thing Monday morning, for the event to go ahead.
So that's the deadline. At 9am Monday morning we take a look at the total number paid, and if it is less than 240 people we will have no option but to cancel the event. We'd rather not do this, as we love LANs just as much as those attending, but being a small family-run company, we simply cannot afford to take a loss of thousands of pounds.
If the event is cancelled, don't worry if you've already paid as we will refund you in full, or transfer the payment towards i12.
You can register for i11 @ href="http://www.multiplay.co.uk/signuppage3.asp?event=15 and then the best way to pay is over-the-phone by credit or debit card. The number to call is (023) 8024 3137.
Hope to see you all at i11! *crosses fingers*
----So i11 hangs in the balance. Please help us to keep the event going by confirming your attendance. We've never cancelled an i-series event before and really don't want i11 to be the first one to go this way!
Yours hopefully,
Craig "Wizzo" Fletcher

Plus of course the fact the World Cup is on, people are on holidays and students are revising/taking exams doesn't help!
Although I hope the event happens, there is no way they will their quote at this late notice, and the news of a small amount of people attending will put people off rather than encourage them to pay up. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
