Several sites have posted news that top Quake 3 player, fatal1ty, who is a professional gamer, has decided to try his luck with Counter Strike. Evidence of this has been gleamed via the [3D] clan roster. He's joined the top clan [3D] under the name "Wendel" and has being lanning heavily with Ksharp and a few other members over the past few days. He has already participated in a LAN event with the clan and its thought that he will be participating in more in the very near future. Interesting news.

He'll become very good, but i dont think he can get to the level required to take on NiP before the CPL worldchampionships.
For 3D having him is good for pr purposes. He's very well known and gets more attention for their team should they need more sponsors. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Yes, you cannot learn teamplay as quickly as aiming, but he can obviously learn game related things much quicker than most people, and he can obviously dedicate himself fully to a game better than most people, therefor I dont think he will have problems catching up with the rest of 3D in all areas. Just look at the time he took up alien vs predator for ONE cpl tournament (because the 1st prize was worth about 40k dollars), he hadnt played the game for more than a few months, entered the tournament, beat the best avp players in the world at their own game, won the 40 thousand dollar prize, and quit the game ! I understand the final was very intense (3 way) and the score difference was only about 5 in 50, but he beat them. He had practiced in total secret prior to the tournament, and nobody really knew what his tactics were. I understand that his beaten opponents were conceeding that he was not only doing stuff they werent - but doing the stuff they were doing, better. So in other words he rewrote the game script !
But most of all, when the pressure is on, he's been there before. Winning Wimbledon is like climbing a huge psycological wall for non winners, for pete sampras its just another title and a cheque. This guy's got waaaay more competitive experience than ANY cs clan.
But - and this is the real deal - I can't see him sticking with cs to win though, because there isnt enough money (after split 5 ways) and because it appears that he's not the sort of character that relies on other people, especially after surpassing them.
