Angel Munoz sends word that CPL had managed to secure $45 million in private investors. In an article on Wired News the reporter discusses many aspects of the CPL and its history and the private investment.The president of the CPL, Angel Munoz, said of the article:
"The Wired News story is accurate in all statements but one, the CPL will not be in 'serious trouble' if it does not expand beyond the hardcore gamers next year. Although all of our current efforts are in fact directed to expand the worldwide visibility of the league."Also on another note, Intel has been announced as the global sponsor of CPL. This is a major move for Intel and together with the $45 million private investment, CPL's future seems to be stable.
At E3 this week, Intel announced that the Pentium 4 processor will be the worldwide sponsor of the Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) and tournaments. The CPL is the world's largest professional gaming league with tournaments in North America, South America, Europe and Asia. Twice a year, thousands of gamers from around the world converge in the U.S. for the CPL's championship events.
