HomeLAN have interviewed Gabe Newell in regard to yesterday's announcement which stated that Counter-Strike is to be released on the XBox. Here's a piece:HomeLAN - First, how did the idea of bringing Counter-Strike to the Xbox come about? Did you approach Microsoft or did Microsoft approach you?Interesting news. Read up on it.
Gabe Newell - Well, we have been talking with the guys who have been developing the Xbox for a long time now. When you look at the Xbox and you look at the hardware that is there, the fact that it is always connected, the fact that it is a broadband connection , the fact that it has a hard drive were all things that we were looking for in the right platform to deliver Counter-Strike. So really ever since they started building the Xbox we have been thinking about the best way to take advantage of it and Counter-Strike will be the first thing we try to really exploit the capabilities of Xbox.

Agree with the Joypad argument too, u need mouse and keyboard to play FPS and on consoles thats about £50 for a 2 button mouse and £30 for a £5 keyboard... [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

MS are not keen on releasing kb/mice peripherals - they do not want the XBox to be seen as a PC in a black box, they want it to be a console, fullstop. The only problem you have is physical compatibility, as the ports are standard USB just with different plugs. Drivers would likely be in the software rather than the console.
DrEvil I think you're being a bit melodramatic - the Xbox hasn't got the kind of success sony has enjoyed but it is hardly 'dead in the water'. I suppose all those developers making xbox games for release before xmas are just having a bit of a laugh with obselete hardware?
KB/mouse would probably be sold together for about £40 I would guess. And Jimmy you're right with your last sentence - KB/mouse using more FPS - wtf?
Advantage with the Xbox is that they are all the same. You haven't got some lamer fiddling with console settings to get an advantage, or pumping up their gamma or any rubbish like that. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
