Official Statement From VGA

It seems I was a little hasty in posting news on here regarding the UK CPL qualifiers and Mr. Mulroy from the VGA made an official statement on the comments.

The VGA are hosting the WCG this year in Aug-Sep. We were contacted a couple of weeks by iGames in the USA who are organising the CPL events this year. They asked us if we wanted to do the event in the UK, we had to have it cleared by both CPL and WCG that we could do both and sense has prevailed and we can.
We will ONLY do the event once we have a confirmed sponsor, and we believe we have one 99%. We all know when the finals are in Dallas so we obviously have to run the qualifier a few weeks before then! The dates of the event can be changed to whenever, and we will do our best to avoid conflicting dates. I've known Tom and Craig at Multiplay for ages, and we consider them friends in our cause so it will NOT conflict with them.
I am a little disheartened by the lack of enthusiasm shown by a minority of some people here, the CPL and WCG are there to be enjoyed and to compete. I am certain Arsenal would not have agreed to pulling out of the Premiership and FA Cup as they thought "why bother" as Man U will surely win.
There are amazing clans that ONLY play at Lan centres and not online. I think you will be suprised at the final placements. No, I know you will be.
The VGA is an alliance of all the gaming centres in the UK which is here to promote them and to get people in to play in friendly environments. They are all independent companies trying to succeed where TPF and Lanarena have failed. Perhaps you should try them out before passing judgement...

I'd like to apologise to the VGA for posting the news without official confirmation by them. I'd also agree that the VGA is doing the UK a favour by hosting such a tournament since the downfall of both TPF and Lan Arena so perhaps they deserve praise rather than harsh criticism. I for one have visited several VGA venues and each time have been impressed by the computers and the staff friendliness. I'm sure the tournaments they run for our benefit prove to be as exciting and well organised as those previously.

There the best two teams there and they would be lucky, and they know it, to get 10 rounds off noc/ies so please think a bit more when your deciding what teams go through. I realised late in the day that no-one was organising a UK qualifier for the CPL and I decided that I'd organise one because it would be a crying shame to not have a UK team in the finals. If I'd known that there'd be so much hostility towards a CPL Qualifier before it had even been announced, I might have thought again! As it stands now, we've found a sponsor that's very enthusiastic about the VGA and these CPL events so I'm looking forward to running this event in the UK. If lots of teams take part in the qualifier then the sponsors will be happy and will fund the prizes for the next big competition. 	Sujoy 02:19 14/5/2002	The VGA League final was not 'fixed' so that Stevenage got an easy match. Does anyone check what they're saying before they say it? Bath was seeded 1 since they won Division A. Stevenage was seeded 2 for winning Division B. Birmingham were seeded 3 as runner-up in Division A. Canterbury were seeded 4 as runner-up in Division B. Seed 1 plays Seed 4, Seed 2 plays Seed 3. As for why people have shown hostility towards it, i dont have a clue. The previous 2 CPL Qualifiers i've played in are the best and most exciting lans ive played in. I spoke to the player involved at the time and he made no such claim. Again, if 'your mate' wants to discuss the matter further he is welcome to get in touch. Your claim that the matches were rigged is laughable, as already explained by Sujoy.
