I'd like to thank former UKTerrorist writer Xceed for cunningly bringing this little tidbit of information to my attention. It seems the VGA, after talks with Angel Munoz regarding their involvement with the World Cyber Games (CPL's leading competitor), have decided to host the CPL UK cpl qualifier(s). The winners of the qualifier will have an all expenses paid trip to Dallas to look forward to to compete with the world's best clans for the $125,000 prize.
Here's what I grabbed from the Lancity forum thread:
The format for the above event will be as follows:As you may or may not be aware from the 21st - 23rd June many of us gamers will be at i11 in Newbury. So i'd like to ask the VGA to consider rescheduling the date of the final if possible. One team qualifies from each VGA centre
All winning teams compete at the regional finals(15th June)
Winning teams at these regional finals compete in the Grand Final(22nd June)
The winning team will travel to Dallas to compete in the World CPL Finals for a prize of £125000.
For more information click here or to e-mail the VGA asking them to reconsider the date click here or here. Good luck to all clans who compete in this tournament and thanks to the VGA for deciding to host it rather than making us travel to Ireland to compete.

Middle of exam period :/
Also sarge is right about UK not having many teams able to compete at that level but i think the CPL Quals are as much about taking part as winning. Particularly cos in the UK there r so few lans. I for one wud love to go just to play rather than win, but cos of exams doubt i cud neway. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

1. You should really be going for the fun of the event
2. You seem to forget i-es nearly lost i-10 to a merc team. Don't think it couldn't happen again.
Everyone b***hes about the UK not having enough lans and then when one does crop up you b***h that there's no point in going coz i-es will win it. Have a little confidence in yourselves. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

a) 2-3 different trips to a VGA center
and b) the fact they scheduled the final bang in the middle of i11.
How many teams live near each other? I-eS for example have players from Fittleworth to Glasgow to Holland. Im sure many other clans find themselves in similar circumstances where going to Slough every weekend for the best part of a month is not practical.
It makes sense for the VGA to promote the idea of local teams who can all compete together from their local VGA cafe in the VGA league. And why would the VGA run a qualifier without getting everything out of it they possibly can, but surely this will rule out good teams who want to compete.
Whyyyyyyyy in the middle of i11 aswell? Would I be naive to think they were forced into having it on this weekend by a tight schedule? Wasnt there a rumour about i11 hosting CPL qualifiers in the future? So is this 2 fingers up at multiplay from the VGA?
Anyway point is, neither of these things are benefitting the gamers. Virtual Gamers Alliance?
Hurry back TPF. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Who in their right mind would want to travel to 3 different centers (granted they get through), who hasn't got a sponsor? And let's face it.. Not many people have sponsors, only Infinity and Nocturne have 'travel' sponsors to my knowledge. Let's do some quick calculations..
First venue:
Entree probably £10~
Transport(most will take train) £30-40
Second Venue:
Entree probably £10~ (should be free though, as it's a win from last "tourny"
Transport(train again) £30-40
Third Venue:
Entree, surely free..
Transport(yet again train) £30-40
so.. that's roughly
£110
That's NOT including food, and somewhere to stay (as alot of people wont be able to get home on the same day)..
Yes, sure you can get train tickets for <£10.. IF you book 2 weeks before, how in gods name are you going to know if you should book 2 weeks before or not if you don't know if you've qualified?
That would be roughly
£800 for a clan, with 6 members.. including food etc
Now.. IF that clan wins, and ends up going to dallas.. They would get to compete against top clans in the world etc etc.
BUT, considering Infinity did VERY well last time round, and still ONLY won £1500~($2000) placing 9th-12th.
That leaves the clan with £100 each, for the biggest tournament in the world.
What are you thinking of VGA?
Roweb - www.roweb.co.uk
i11 - www.multiplay.co.uk
Both VERY good lans, and there's NO reason for you to have events clashing with BOTH these events, as most top UK gamers will be going to these, I myself was planning on attending both these events, but due to your STUPIDITY in date selection, I'm having to carefully reconsider this, as are the rest of my clan, and alot of other clans I know.
That's enough from me for now..

SOMEONE, PLEASE pass this URL on to VGA, or I may end up e-mailing it to them if I get round to it.

I for one am glad it clashes with i11, cos that way maybe a really s*** clan like us will get thru playing against only s*** local clans and p*** everyone off :P.
Final thing 'The winning team will travel to Dallas to compete in the World CPL Finals for a prize of £125000.
' how much of the expense of going is paid cos we had a bad experience with 'expenses paid' trips at the last CPL qualifier. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I would like to state from one of the statements above regarding fps at Lancity. Obviously v-sync was on when the gentlemen played on our machines because with v-sync off we get 99+fps constant.
We run client servers due to them being the most stable form of server for us in the past.
We have run CPL qualifiers before and are looking forward to this years even more!
