Leon Hartwig has posted up some info over on the Steam site forums where he mentions that HL1.1.0.9 and CS1.4 will be 'totally non-Steam'. The news comes as a slight surprise considering how much people have been talking about it, and exactly what it was. Here's what he had to say:"You won't see the CS dev team as active here because we really have no need to be. CS is well established. The current high-maintenence support issues are mostly for Steam (which, by the way, will not be going live with CS 1.4; the public releases of HL 1109 and CS 1.4 will be totally non-Steam).As far as what we're working on...Well, most of the planned changes and fixes on the 'News' page have been completed and will be in a Steam update soon. As some of you noticed, we're still testing Ido's new hostage map ourselves, cs_havana, which I really like. Personally, I'm spending most of my CS time rewriting the hostage navigation."
Later on in the same thread, he was questioned about the anti-cheat software Valve plan to implement in the next release. There's been alot of speculation that the anti-cheat was part of Steam, here's your answer:
"Steam and anti-cheat are two separate things. While Steam makes it a little more difficult for cheats just because of the way it operates, it is not specifically designed as an anti-cheat. I'm sure some people have been using cheats during this beta test. You guys haven't been testing any anti-cheat stuff yet."
