JCal (HomeLan Fed) is the latest to upload an interview with Erik Jonhson, of Valve. Again, the discussion at the forefront of the interview is about cheaters:HomeLAN - What can you tell us specifically about what Valve will put into future Half-Life updates to combat cheating?Erik Johnson - Specifics of how things work aren't really something that we'll go into in detail, but I can give you an idea of how things will happen when we do release the update.
The first step is going to be collecting information on how many people are cheating at any given time. This will probably last about a week, so we have a good idea of the size of the cheating community. Server operators will also see this information, so they will be able to take individual action on their servers.
Once this short data collection period is over, we'll start banning cheaters.
It's nice to hear that action is underway, check it out.
