The CPL World Rankings have been updated over on CSports with X3 taking the number 1 spot, ahead of World Champions, NiP. NiP have only managed second because of their 4th place finish at last year's MPlayer Europe CPL event.Four Kings are seeded 19th in the listings

Actually the official CPL Rankings are worked out by CSports.net an entirely independent company to the CPL. Within CSports.net the task falls to me and I am British, in fact we all are.
Believe you me we would love NiP to be the top clan in the rankings However there really is no way of escaping the hard facts.
1. The Official rankings represent an average performance over the last 18 months.
2. NiP had an appalling result 12 months ago in a relatively minor event (MPlayer only had 26 teams). In fact in that event they were beaten by the 4th, 7th and 10th placed teams and the rankings reflect this.
3. X3 came first in a 48 team event at the same time that NiP were at MPlayer and have only recently were beaten by NiP.
4. No ranking system can take into account the soundness of team selection by the teams.
In essence X3 were beaten narrowly in a big event by one team and NiP were beaten by 3 teams in a small event hence NiP ended up lower. To ignore these facts or to mathematically fudge them away would be to totally destroy the integrity of the rankings.
As a comment I would suggest that NiP and X3 are currently pretty equal in ability. The result was after all 2-1 in matches. I would however emphasise that in common with other ranking systems the Official CPL Rankings do not attempt to measure the current abilities of the teams that is what each individual event does and currently NiP are the best. The rankings are a long term measure and currently X3 measure up better due to some weakness in NiPs performance 12 months ago. As time goes by this event will drop out of the rankings and NiP will rise to the top of that as well.
There are many ways to do the ranking and we have tried a lot of them. With the paucity of events this reasonably simple ranking system provides on balance the most believable results given that its role is to reflect sustained performance. However we do not by any means have all the answers, we just have a head start. All the data is on the website I would truly be happy if you or someone you know can take the data (easily available on the site) for the top 10-20 places and produce a result that is better and defensible. As a reasonably competent mathematician and scientist it would satiate my inquisitive mind to point out the easy solution that I have missed and at the very least it is a good pressure test of the validity of the work that we have put into this :-)) [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
