NiP Win CPL World Championships!

Swedish clan, Ninjas in Pyjamas, have beaten top US clan X3 in what turned out to a top class, tense final at the CPL World Championships in Dallas.

The first match of the final between the two big guns went X3's way, just. NiP had started as CT (de_nuke) and after a disasterous start, found themselves 7-1 down on what many people class as the 'easier' side of de_nuke. They managed a great semi-comeback though, and won all remaining rounds leaving that half at 7-5 to X3. The second half started...again X3 made a great start, 5-2 up as CT and one more round would seal the victory for them (12-7 overall at this point). Yet again, NiP turned on the style and took the final five rounds to tie the match at 12-12!

Into the play-off we went, but were presented with a bit of an anti-climax, perhaps. X3 won their 3 rounds as CT first, meaning they only needed one round as T to wrap it up...which they managed without trouble, 4-0 and X3 had won.

NiP 12 - 16 Xtreme3

This victory for X3 meant that the championship would now go down to one final match on the same map, de_nuke. Again NiP started as CTs, but this time they made a bit of a better start, taking a 5-2 lead. Some great play from X3 though brought the match back within grasp and the half ended 6-6...X3 were surely now favourites with their turn as CT to come.

As CT, X3 took the early advantage taking a 4-2 lead, although this was quickly cut back to 4-4 by the NiP guys. With the overall score sitting at 10-10 now, things were getting extremely tense. A round a piece took the match to 11-11, the next clan to win a round would be guaranteed a play-off at least, it was NiP. It all came down to the last round, and NiP managed to take it...and the championships (7-5 NiP for half).

Congratulations to NiP, who take home the first prize of $50,000. The final standings for the event are as follows (top 8) :
