Qradio Interview

I'm joined by two members of #Qradio: Woozy and Amadeus.

Firstly, please tell me a little bit about who you are, where you come from, and what your role is in Qradio?
Amadeus: My name is Anton Ericson, I'm 17 years old. I live in Sweden in a small town called Nyköping. My role in #QRadio is commentating CS-games and I'm also trying to dj music from time to time.

Woozy: I am 20 years old, from Sweden and I started Qradio so I am an Admin.

Can you start by sharing the history of Qradio with us? And explain to our readers what Qradio provides to the Gamers?
Amadeus: I've only been on Qradio for some months so I don't know so much about the history. But, #QRadio provides gamers online with live broadcasting from a lots of big games, tournaments, etc...

Woozy: QRadio was started by me. I was supposed to play some nice tunes for some friends, then it got very popular so I started the name and channel QRadio. Then my friends started to play and other people that wanted to be a part of QRadio to and the channel got very popular then I got a message from Beefcake that wanted to talk to me about starting commentating UT games so we did.

So do you think Qradio is important for the online-gamers ?
Woozy: I think it is now, before we started noone hardly knew about Live radio shoutcasters and now they got used to it its taking a big place in online gaming.

Amadeus: Well, I really do. There are a lot of problems with HLTV and matchbots and so on, and HLTV only allows like 128 people watching. QRadio is covering up for about 7-900 people so there is enough room for everybody that wants to hear the best music and the best commentating on the net!

Why the name Qradio? :)
Amadeus: I only knows that it stands for QuakenetRadio, and NOT QuakeRadio :)

Woozy: Hehe no that’s wrong, it doesn’t stand for Quakenet Radio and not Quake Radio, its only QRadio. I got the name because we are on Quakenet so then I thought the Q would be nice, but its not Quakenet Radio.

Amadeus: Umm ok my mistake :)

Do you have any plans for Qradio to move into any other games in the future?
Amadeus: That's a decision for Woozy and other admins to take. But if that is the decision, then we should have different channels for CS/UT/RtCW/etc so that everyone can enjoy their favourite game at anytime.

Woozy: We're taking it slow, we are still a very small radio. we cover so many games that we can, this is only a spare time thing. But you never know what happens in the future.

What inspired you to create Qradio ?
Woozy: I like to stream and I know other people do too, but they don’t have any servers to do it from, so you could say that I created this because I like to stream myself and it would be nice to let other people try it as well
How long would you say this "project" has taken you?
Amadeus: Will it ever be "finished"?

Woozy: I can answer it like this; that's not up to me to say, that’s up to our listeners...

That brings me on to my next question. And where would you like to see Qradio go?
Amadeus: I hope QRadio one day can be the official CPL-commentator station.

Woozy: Don't know, that depends on our admins, djs, etc. Without them this wouldn’t work at all.

What problems have you encountered with Qradio?
Amadeus: You know, Swedish people trying to commentate games like 2 hours, then your English really suck, at least mine does. So a lot of people often complain about my speak-speak and so on.

Woozy: Nothing really, everyone that listen to us like what we are doing, and for them who doesn’t we're not forcing anyone to listen. This is only supposed to be fun for all.

Right. So, you're satisfied with Qradio development?
Amadeus: I'm impressed by Woozy and his work with QRadio, I really am.

Woozy: Hmm, hard questions, I guess I am because this was only supposed to me for my friends at first, and it have already got this big on 5months and I never expected that.

Is there anything the community can do to help Qradio?
Woozy: Hehe yes a big thing, listen to us! And tell your friends about us, and of course we need more djs and commentators.

Amadeus: I think the best way to make us better is to criticise us with good opinions and tell us what we could do better, that’s a good way how to improve QRadio's standard.

How "in advance" do you prepare your comments/matches? Is it an on-the-spur-of-the moment thing?
Woozy: When I commentated last time QRadio wasn't that big so I only got on the stream a couple of minutes before and had a lot of fun. But I'll leave this question to Amadeus.

Amadeus: Well, I try to gather some information about the teams, talking to some players and stuff like that, I go to the local Turkish-shop and get a lot of coke and then I get back to my house and try to be alone for some hours, lets say the time for me to prepare commentating a game is about 1* day or some... But it's very funny though!

How do you choose which matches will be commentated on?
Amadeus: First of all I go to Clanbase and check up what matches that is going to get a lot of publicity, then I talk to Woozy, tell him that I want to do commentating on lets say NiP vs. Matrix. He sets me up for it by talking to the Clanbase Admins and I'll start to make a commercial for it when I’m DJ'ing.
What sponsors do you presently have and how do Qradio benefit?
Amadeus: I'll hand that one over to Woozyz0r.

Woozy: Qradio is as I said before all for fun, we don't have any sponsors at this moment, but we do have some offers that we will consider.

For someone wanting to join Qradio, what are the key aspects you look for in a commentator or a DJ?
Woozy: You should have basic knowledge in shoutcasting. Only thing you have to do is to come to our channel or to our homepage and email us with your skills. We will email you back when its QRadio Tryout Night, and then we try everyone that’s wants to try. We won't explain anything with shoutcast stuff, because we don’t have time for it, so if you don't know basic things you will be immediately put off the test stream...

Although we do have a Soundcheck Admin that answer questions like 1 week before the tryout night.

Is there any possibility for cooperation between Qradio and the CPL or other big events?
Woozy: Of course there is, with the right offers.
How did your gaming career begin?
Amadeus: Ohh long story. I started out as a newbie (didn’t we all?) in a clan called TSZ (The Snow Zombies) playing prodigy all the time :), this was around beta 3.5 or some. Then I moved on in CS joining a clan called Clan OSS, and when I got tired of that, I joined up with a clan called XiSM, doing different stuff for them. They were on first place in Sweden on the CB-ladder so they were pretty good. Then I got tired of playing with so high-ranked players so I moved down some divisions to a clan called okay player. But we had some different opinions so I just joined up with a clan called gNu with players like Wagberg, Larsson and them, my best internet-friends today I think, we changed our name to XscreaM and here I am. :)

Woozy: I've played Unreal Tournament for almost a year. I've played CS for 10 minutes as well. =)

What are your views on pro-gaming?
Amadeus: Well, I would NOT want to play on levels like NiP's level (WC) or levels where it's about money. I have noticed good players on different clans now a days only care about the money and they don't use the game for fun. No no, now it’s about the money. So I think it's been a bad evolution. Play for fun for f***'s sake! :)

Woozy: I only play for fun before I only played Public, but I’ve joined a clan now so i am new with this clan thing.

The common view now a days amongst gamers is that pro-gaming is a myth and that sponsors are impossible to come by. What are your opinions about that?
Amadeus: Nothing is impossible, some things are only a bit harder to obtain. That's my opinion. If you just have the right people to talk to and the right opinion about certain things, then of course you can get sponsored.
What do you like and dislike about the EuroCup(s)? Do you have any suggestions for improvements?
Amadeus: I really like Eurocup, nice admins, nice games, nice teams and so on. Although I think they should have certain rules for using wildcards (some teams use wildcard cause they have to screw their girlfriend and so on) so they should get better rules (if they have any) for using wildcards!

Woozy: I can't really answer that question as this is the first Eurocup I am in and it works pretty ok. You cant demand it to work to 100% when all supervisors and admins do it for fun, they don't get anything for it expect shit when they do something wrong.

What do you think about the Clanbase Crew? Any wishes or suggestions?
Amadeus: Nah, rokkin all night long, tell them to listen to more QRadio though! :)

Woozy: As i said it works ok, you cant demand it to work to 100% when they do it on their spare time. But I am impressed it works so good that it is .

About EC V: Who do you think will be in the EC5 LAN finals?
Amadeus: Well, you probably know NiP got out of EC5 (that’s good!) and now, I really think Matrix will get this one! They have the aim and teamplay to do it. Although, there are also good teams out there like Massive Attack, iddqd, Ewoks, etc.
Is Cybersport your main interest in life?
Amadeus: Umm.

Woozy: Hehe, no not really, but it's fun for sure.

Amadeus: Both yes and no, I'm also trying to have a life outside only sitting and doing nothing on IRC, playing CS, etc, etc. But yes, some of my life are a lot of cybersports. Right now its too much into "usual" peoples lifes, everyone knows about this right now, and money's getting involved and gahhhh!! Get real, this is a game, no job!

What do you think of the popularity of CS?
Amadeus: It has grown too fast and too big. Newbies on CS play with luck, they can easily own me only because of luck. And 90% of those #R()=#€=) cheaters are under 15 years of age, so I think that they should put an age-limit on CS! :D
And here is my traditional question: Do you like UKTerrorist.com? (Remember, answering this question in a wrong way may accidentally make my finger slip over the delete button)
Amadeus: Haha, I also work at the site www.gamingeye.com so we write a lot about UKTerrorist.com - and I like the page but I don't visit it so often though. :/

Woozy: Hahah, of course we do, otherwise we wouldn't agree to this interview.

Got a few questions from the public to ask you now. :)
From DaRkAnGeL2: Do you want to use Qradio only for great competitions such as EuroCup or for regular clanbase matches too?
Amadeus: In my opinion, I think that regular CB-games are to common, they are so unsexy! :/

Woozy: It's pretty much up to the Commentator, I am not saying complete no to regular games but commentators usually want to commentate important and big games.

Amadeus: Hell yeah! :)

From ChrisFrag: How far is Qradio connected with HLTV?
Amadeus: Well, we ain't connected with HLTV, commentators like me, connect as a spectator.

Woozy: We don't comment through HLTV, we have a spectator place on the server that we use.

From ChrisFrag: How much influence has ClanBase on QRadio?
Amadeus: Umm... 90% of our commentating is on ClanBase games, so it is very important for QRadio.

Woozy: We comment a lot of CB games but we don’t have any contract with them.

No more questions from the public, so I guess this interview is over! Thanks a lot for your time, and good luck in the future!
Amadeus: Same to you there! Thank you for doing this interview and good luck yourself.

Woozy: Thanks for showing interest in us.
