Interview with Zaphod Bebblebrox

Your claims to fame are as_tundra and cs_estate, any others we should know about?
Zaphod: Not really. I've done a few others but none that I'm too proud of.
Have you got any future projects for Counter-Strike planned, and are you working on anything at the moment?
Zaphod: Actually as of the moment I've retired from maping in order to focus more on architecture, which I'm planning to major in next year.
Ooh good luck m8, but would you make a map where you ride around on giant greyhounds at a racetrack, call it de_houndathon and dedicate it to me and the staff?
Zaphod: I would but seeing as I'm retired, I'm sure Medic911 would be happy to make something of that caliber ; )
What do you think's different about the Counter-Strike community, compared to say q3?
Zaphod: I can't really say because I was never in the Q3 community, but I can say that the cs community is a very large, dynamic, and proud community.
Whats the most rewarding part of what you do?
Zaphod: The Ego . . . yup, definitely the ego ; )
How much feedback on average do you get on your maps?
Zaphod: Here is a brief quote some emails I recieved:

"Do you know where i can get CS maps? plz e-mail me back this time." "hey can u send me ur map? thanx" "Hi Zaphod Bebblebrox, i believe you are the great creator for the counterstrike map (as_tundra). Right now, i am trying to create simple maps in order to let me train on, so i need to seek your help, can you teach me how to create maps and how did you do so??" "HELP ME WHITH CS MAPPING PLEASE!!!"

I get about 10 or so of those a day. It's kind of depressing to say the least, but every so often I get one that's just some player taking time to write an email to thank me for creating maps. Those are what keep me going.

Surely it gets annoying, opening up your mailbox and finding 20 e-mails titled "You've f***ed up estate/tundra, Zaphod you suck donkey b******s". Do you ever feel like quiting?
Zaphod: Heh, well, yes all the time. But it's not from the emails. Before I decided to push mapping out of my head for a bit I seriously could not get to sleep some nights because I kept thinking up ideas for maps. It's a bit scary.
How much time do you get to play cstrike itself?
Zaphod: I havent played in 2 weeks!
Is there anything you would add/take away from the game if given the choice?
Zaphod:The bitching players. Namely the general forum on cs.net and #counterstrike. I completely trust Minh to produce a quality game.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jennifer Love Hewitt? How? Where?
Zaphod: For a very long time on a pooltable
Aside from your own maps, which do you think is one of the most fun to play on and why?
Zaphod: heh, I don't think any of my maps are very fun ; ) Umm .. I really havent had much time to play the new maps but I must say that I have taken a liking to 747 and arabstreets. 747 because I love terrorist books (check out "the Lions Game" and "the Charm School" by Nelson Demille) and there seems to be a 747 in each one, and arabstreets because Medic911 made it and he's cool.
Your favourite terror model? The hunky rugged beard of the guerrillas, the weedy yet scientific look of the Duracell? Good ol classic urban camo terror? Or artic joe?
Zaphod: Well, I would have to say guerilla, but every once in a while I have to go "sophisticated" with the arab.
Camping, always a hot topic. So are campers scum of the earth, or is 'tactical ambushing' and a perfectly good tactic?
Zaphod: Do a swat team and terrorists run around until they're dead in real life?
What I've been saying for ages, but I'm runnin out of questions so I'll have to thank you for your time. Ladies and gents, Zaphod Beezlebrox, take a bow.
Zaphod: Thanks for the witty interview, you don't see so many entertaining ones these days. Oh, and thanks for Hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy. /me snuggles his towel
