I recently met up with bds, HeatoN, Potti and Xenon who, of course, are some of the top players from SK.sca.
SK|bds: I used to do a lot of sports before I got into gaming. When I quit school and started to work I didn't have enough time to continue with it. But I felt that I lacked the competition. A few friends at work used to play Half-Life a lot and I tried it out and really liked it. Was nice to be able to play vs. each other and gain skill and just get better all the time. A few months later I found Counter-Strike, which was even more fun at that time, and here I am now, not playing any games except Phantasy Star.
SK|HeatoN: I was also an sport geek before Counter-Strike, playing hockey 24 / 7 until I injured myself, then I started to play Counter-Strike and got stuck with it, and that's what I've been doing since then.
SK|Potti: I use to work out a lot and the gym I use to go to are closed Sundays, so I went to a place for teenagers. I knew a guy that was working there and he was sitting in his office playing Half-Life dm, I thought it looked really cool, I had never played a computer game before, but a lot of Playstation :). So I thought it was really cool, and when I found out it was on internet I got hooked on it, started playing a lot and then I found CS after a week or so...
SK|HeatoN: Well, sports = more healthy, but Counter-Strike = more fun, meet more people, and get to travel around the world, so I would say Counter-Strike.
SK|bds: Being among the best in the world in CS definitely beats being average in other sports. But they both have their ups and downs.
SK|Xenon: Yes, being the best is definitely worth giving up the other lifestyle for. Tennis was not fun anymore after I stopped winning local tournaments. :)
SK|Xenon: When there is more $ in another game or when there is just too much to do in real life.
SK|bds:When it's not fun anymore.
SK|HeatoN: The day I don't think it's fun anymore.
SK|Potti: You bet!
SK|HeatoN: Yes of course.
SK|Potti: Nope, well all my friends think it's really cool that I make money off something like that and I get to travel a lot.
SK|HeatoN: Nope. All of my close friends think it’s really cool and are happy for me.
SK|bds: Yeah, Lotta and she thinks it's quite cool since it's getting this big (with media, prize money, etc). Most friends thinks its cool, reading about it in the newspapers.
SK|Xenon: If I had to make that choice then they are not real friends. (Unless of course I was playing 24/7 and never did anything else, but then I would hope they could slap some sense into me).
SK|bds: If my girlfriend would diss me because of Counter-Strike, she is not worth having. You need to respect each other and what you like to do. No matter if it’s Counter-Strike, playing bingo or something else.
SK|HeatoN: If your friends let you choose between them and a hobby, then they're not real friends.
SK|Xenon: Train for a few weeks before tournaments. That’s about it for me.
SK|bds: Like the average life with a little bit of Counter-Strike on top…. And a little more chicks.
SK|HeatoN: Get up: Breakfast JOLT COLA, play 4 hours, lunch JOLT COLA, play 8 hours, Dinner JOLT COLA, play 8 hours, sleep.
SK|Xenon: As much as they are attracted to professional chess players.
SK|bds: Everyone wants a hero :).
SK|HeatoN: Of course!
SK|HeatoN: CPL Oslo is the next event for us so that’s what we are focusing on now, we just started to practice again after a couple of weeks break from counter-strike.
SK|Xenon: If we train enough we can.
SK|HeatoN: Yes of course we will aim for the no.1 position, and I really think we can achieve that.
SK|bds: As long as we don’t underestimate I really think we have a big chance. But you never know in tournaments, everything can happen.
SK|Potti: Dunno, time will tell...
SK|bds: Will continue to happen until the players, the teams and the organisations turn professional enough.
SK|bds: The ones with real sponsorship and not just investments, with a serious organisation using a company, with players that go under contracts. And with no "managers" and "sponsors"... It’s too much talk nowadays.
SK|HeatoN: Yeah I agree with bds on that one.
SK|Xenon: It would definitely be a step in the right direction. One, which SK has recently taken.
SK|Xenon: I used to live on it for about 2 years from 99-01. I reckon you can only do it atm as an individual player and not as a team. Perhaps in a few years....
SK|HeatoN: I really don’t know, athletes in some minor sports make lots of money, on a sport that’s a lot smaller then Counter-Strike, so it all just have to become a little more professional.
SK|Potti: At the moment I'm actually living from prize money but in order to live on it you have to almost win every tournament since currently there aren’t any sponsors that pay salary… It all has to be more professional for the sponsors so they can open their pockets more. :)
SK|Xenon: Except Intel of course, which pays every one of us a small amount of pocket money every month for playing.
SK|Potti: We haven’t got it yet but we’ll split it on 6 persons and SK gets a cut.
SK|HeatoN: We played really bad in the first half, thought we already had won, and GoL played really impressive, but in the other game with started to focus a little bit and it went much better.
SK|Potti: You have a million thoughts in your head, can’t be described really, a thing that you have to experience yourself. But the closer the game is, the more fun it is to win it.
SK|Potti: They owned, I think they will get better and better.
SK|Xenon: Good solid team and nice guys. But they are thieves.... They stole my joystick that I won in the raffle... :( B**TARDS!
SK|HeatoN: They improved a lot since last CPL Dallas, really good team now, and nice guys.
SK|Potti: Dunno, depends on the motivation in all the players, it's like any other sport , you cant just skip the practices and think you will play the matches.
SK|HeatoN: Yeah, the ones who play a lot, well, will play in the events.
SK|Xenon: Most likely the same one plus another player.
SK|Xenon: It works in Korea so it might work in the rest of the world in the future.
SK|Potti: Dunno, the morals have to change a bit first I think, right now many people are jealous and stuff like that when you get successful, and they talk shit about things like that.
SK|Xenon: It would be cool to go full-time but that’s not really something we can choose to do at the moment as its up to the sponsors and the media. I guess we will be happy if we can make a substantial amount of money while doing this part time.
SK|Potti: Hmm I want to go more "pro" of course, dunno really, 3 years is along time, hard to say.
SK|Potti: hmm I like kebab.
SK|HeatoN: Ok I got one, That Potti’s actually even better then Scream at puting out COBROR…..KUUUUUUUNGS KOBRAN!

The story behind it is this : They were doing the raffle and i was with the SK guys, xenon told me to hold his tickets cause he had to off somewhere. When he came back i had arms full of goodies. We gave out the usless s*** like Alien vs predator 2 hat to fatality (him being the avp2 champion) and some1 else took the games, leaving me and xenon to argue over this joystick.
We said we'd try and sell it and split the money. Our flight left before he woke up, and i got away with it :D [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I joke with my European friends about their having better grammar than me -- here in the USA, at least, people tend to ignore their english lessons and learn to communicate from their families and each other.
In Europe, they learn and use correct grammar in school, thus you end up with the funny result of Swedes speaking better english.
It's amusing, really, in a sad way. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

If u want to play on the gamers.nu servers u have to live in the nordic region (i copied this from their homepage)
gamers living in the Nordic region and as such the only available countries to choose from are Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden. If you are from a country other than those you may only sign up for a non-compete account which will allow you to view the content on the site but not take part in the Nordic Masters and tournaments. Nor will you be able to play on our game servers. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
