First ever interview with Infinity-esports

So to begin with what's the shiney new tag?

I think we are going to use the full thing, i.e. Infinity-eSports | Neffgen and so on. Although we will see how it goes.

Why the name infinity-esports? It suggests some sort of sponsorship?

Sadly not, it was decided by a majority vote. We wanted something 'professional' sounding thats all. And we had a loooooooooot of arguments about it.

So I guess returning to the 'B!tch' roots was never an option?

Hah we'd love to, but the name had to go originally because it was unsponsorable (Bullet !n the Cunts Head), so we can't really go back to it.

Do infinity-esports still enjoy playing CS, or has it gotten to a stage where you may not enjoy it, but would do it as a possible avenue of income?

Nah it's not more money-grabbing, it's simply a fresh start for 4K.CS/B!TCH/whoeverweare. The more sponsors the better, and we feel we can do well on our own, but it's the same team, same attitude.

But do you guys still enjoy playing the game? If there was no money involved would you still play it?

Yeah I think so, while we are sponsored, it's not in the region of some clans out there, and we've been around a damn sight longer than most of them! Probably the only beta1 clan in the UK, so we are definitely CS nuts.

About eight months ago, you kicked several members from the clan leaving only six to focus on the professional side of CS and to compete with the top clans in the world. Since then has there been any time when you've regretted that action or any player you wish you'd kept?

Not really, we have done well since then, in fact we are playing really good right now. It wasn't much fun trimming the team down like that and of course in a perfect world it wouldn't have happened, but it needed to and we have no regrets.

If one was to be critical of your actions over the past 2 years they might say that you "used Four-Kings when it suited you and the moment they stopped being useful you ditched them". What would be your response to such an accusation?

Four Kings is something we wanted to stay a part of forever when it was at its peak, but now it's a very different clan to the one we merged with. The Quake teams will be more than alright without us, they were and are the bigger team in 4K and I'm sure will be fine.

How did the Quake teams react to your decision to split from them?

I think they were a little disappointed, and wanted to make another go of the whole clan as we wanted to do it in November 2000. Extra-special greetings to Zommy and Q50 who have been superb ever since we did join, I'll miss those two.

If another top Quake 3 clan were to approach Infinity esports asking to merge would you be interested?

No.

Why not?

I think we like running the clan ourselves, our way we aren't looking for more divisions maybe one day, but not for a good while.

Now that you have complete control over your own clan what changes can we expect to see around the infinity-esports camp?

Possibly an additional sponsor or two, a new website, and thats about it for the stuff that'll be visible to the outside world.

Any idea on who those sponsors might be?

No idea! :) Damn paparazzi.

It'll be our first trophy as Infinity-eSports, otherwise no :)

So the fact that a lot of people can't wait to see the smile wiped off your face dosen't phase you at all?

Makes it more fun, we've been the team people like to see lose for a long time, and we thrive on it.

dNc, Prozac, Noc, Ui...? Don't you rate their chances?

dnc are certainly not an easy team to beat, but I think we are well-prepared for the competition, and I don't see us losing a game unless something really buggers up.

Looking further afield - CPL summer 2002 world championships, how well do you think Infinity-esports will fare?

We are looking to gain something on our 9th-12th finish at the last USA CPL, which we were a little disappointed with, so a top 8 finish would be just fine.

Lets take a trip down memory lane for a second CPL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, 4k vs NiP, nip do an eco round, Heaton...well you know what I'm about to say, 'tis almost cpl legend by now, what happened?

What happened is I didn't check my spot well enough, and I shall be forever plagued by it. Although to be fair, he was something else the whole game, and the whole tournament.

Would you rate him as no.1 in the world?

That I've seen, yeah.

You've made the history books at last, Seaman and Nayim from the halfway line, Southgate missing that vital penalty, Tim Henman throwing away a great lead...and now Neffgen and heaton :)

Argh! Not the way I wanted it. I'd rather people talk about the way Neffgen took out 5 NiP players in the eco round (yet to happen btw).

Do you ever think you'll ever be able to quit your job and live off CS?

I'd love to think so, but no, I'm pretty sure it'll be the reverse of that one day.

How do you expect to qualify for the CPL exactly? TPF has now closed down? Who do you think/want to hold the qualifiers now?

Well we will have an autoberth I'm sure, so it's just travel money needed, which we have covered.

What are your thoughts on TPF closing down?

Most people know I wasn't the greatest fan, but to be fair they did a good job and I'm sorry to see them go, it definitely was a plus for the UK scene having them around.

Do you feel with TPF closing down and Lanarena Newcastle being sold that LAN gaming in the UK is going downhill after such a promising start?

Yes and no, the private LANs still do great guns (fao multiplay) but for some reason the netcafes don't, I think one just had to hit the right note and we'll have people gaming 24/7.

Ok, usually at this point in an interview I'd ask for an exclusive scoop for ukterrorist, but considering the whole announcement is, that all seems a bit pointless now.
So considering this is the 3rd time I've interviewed you have you got anything better to say to the UK CS community than 'Don't use that damned Crouchjump bind' and 'Don't use that damned netcode settings in ya config'?

It might be that the 2nd best team there plays the best team there in the quarter final, and finishes 4-8th. All that can be said is, the only 5 teams going who have a hope in hell are, 4K/dnc/noc/ui and prozac (imho) - and every1 else's final rank will be determined simply by which round they get drawn against 1 of these teams.. It might be that the 2nd best team there plays the best team there in the quarter final, and finishes 4-8th. All that can be said is, the only 5 teams going who have a hope in hell are, 4K/dnc/noc/ui and prozac (imho) - and every1 else's final rank will be determined simply by which round they get drawn against 1 of these teams..
