GoL Interview
Antmoo is joined by Hyb and h0n1g from GoL, following their 2nd place success at the CPL P4 2002 Summer Championships.
Congratulations and commiserations regarding the CPL Championships but before we go into all that, could you tell us a little about GoL?
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: Thank you very much. Well, GameOnLine (GoL) is located in Gotheborg, Sweden, and is an Internet Gaming Café to be exact. So Team GoL is sponsored by
GameOnLine. Our Line-up looks like this: Hyb, element, mson, gozie, souledge and smh. These guys are currently playing for GoL. GoL is currently only playing Counter-Strike in a professional manner.
When you reached the final of the CPL, what was going through your head? Did you think you could go all the way?
GoL|Hyb: Didn't try to think so much about it just thought about it as any other game, and yeh we can go all the way think we proved it by owning 'em first map 13-1 if I recall right.
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: I thought we could. And I think we also proved that we could. I was like totally happy when we beat esu.swe and just spamming around in priv channel :). And that we could was proven again by 13-1 on the first match...
Your match against I-eS was quite a close one, what do you think of I-eS and the rest of the UK Counter-Strike scene?
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: Hyb is the player. :)
GoL|Hyb: I think that I-es are a really good team and they proved it, I don’t know much about the UK scene, sorry so I won’t say too much.
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: I think, without offence, I-eS is probably the only clan in the UK scene at the moment that can play at international top-level.
Did you get worried in any other matches that you might not win?
GoL|Hyb: The esu.swe game was tough but that’s about it, except the final then, 2nd map.
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: I got worried in the match vs. esu. :)
What do you think sets the CPL apart from other gaming leagues, and what was the atmosphere like there?
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: I think it is much more professional then most other leagues and events. You have this special "CPL-Atmosphere" everywhere around you. On the other hand I think it's not good that the CPL kept the events so closed. That was really nice at LanArena7 with the big spectator area. But from what I heard the CPL is trying to improve on that point and CPL Dallas Summer was the first step in this I think. The coverage was really nice.
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: The CPL has now the money and the experience to do great events.
Yeah definitely. So, which other clan(s) do you like the most to play, and as friends?
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: TEAM SPACEBAR! Nah, joke. mTw.aTn is really nice to play with. :)
GoL|Hyb: We enjoy playing against esu.swe, 2easy and mtw.atn. :P
Yeah, I've heard about the er... Negative feelings between you and Spacebar, could explain that a little?
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: Well mainly its pretty childish in my point of view. Team Spacebar started like a little fight by saying things that are not really nice about us and just kept doing that in SoGamed comments and so on. Sure, the interview with element brought new fire to it but he said nothing really offensive so I don't really get why they keep trying to provoke us.
GoL|Hyb: I just think it's childish flaming each other on a public forum.
Perhaps you should sort it out with a CS match between the two of you. :) In what ways have you improved since LA7?
GoL|Hyb: Well we have gotten our teamplay to work better, and all players are comfortable with each other. It's all kinda sinking in so now we just need to continue and work on it to get even better.
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: Hehe, they lost the last 2 I think. :p So fight is over. ;) I think we improved a lot. At LA7 we had the first big tournament with the new team and I think we improved not only on a team-play level but also on personal skills, just look at hyb on nuke vs. SK.sca and compare it to LA7. :)

Do you think you could explain to us a little more about how this GoL-MtW relationship has developed?
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: Hehe, sure but basically everything is in the statement I wrote a few days ago.
Well the mTw.aTn - GoL relationship is based on friendship and not on contracts. We trust each other and so there was never an disappointment to anybody. mTw.aTn helps us to finance certain travels or helps with other stuff. We will have a bigger cooperation in the future but I can't comment on that any further at the moment. :) Just be patient and stay tuned! ;)
Do you think you could have gotten to where you are today without the help from mtw.atn?
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: That’s a difficult question. To sum it up, theoretically we could, practically we couldn't. :)
And what are you going to spend the $15,000 you won on?
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: I'll cover my expenses and that’s it. the rest is given to the players to have fun with :)

GoL|h0n1g-mTw: Hyb will buy Kebabs. :p
GoL|Hyb: Yesh, kebab party with honig!
Now, there's been some big changes on the website, to do with the management of the clan and the GoL-Crew e.t.c. What brought these changes about?
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: Well, the changes have been made by the demand of the players mainly. We´re trying to get a more professional style in our work to get things better and faster done. So the new structure helps that the players can just focus on what they want to do: gaming. The old structure was pretty much un-ordered. nobody really knew what the other one was doing. I tried to change that since I dropped in. If successful, you better ask hyb or somebody else :p
Is it better do you think Hyb?
GoL|Hyb: h0n1g puts in a lot of work into the whole clan and management, and yes it’s a lot better
Do you think that these changes will improve your league/tournament performance?
GoL|Hyb: It should, ‘cuz we don’t need to worry about things... Just play ;>
What is your next event?
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: The next event for us will be Warp 2002 LAN in Lund, Sweden. After that CPL Oslo is the next big thing. ;)
How do you think you will get on with those? I suppose then we will see if the managerial changes worked. :)
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: Well you already did with Dallas partly. ;) The players are confident and the atmosphere in the team couldn´t be better. I think we will do good in both events, especially in Oslo, we´ll have some extra bootcamps for that event. But Hyb proberly can give you a more game-near point of view. ;)
GoL|Hyb: Well top 3 at any event should be a reasonable goal I think, we got the team to do it.
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: Couldn´t agree more.
Any plans to change the team roster? (e.g getting more players)
GoL|Hyb: We got 6 players right now, so no I don’t think so.
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: We won´t change anything in the near future
So what is your practise regime at moment?
GoL|Hyb: Right now we have a break and it's been going on for like 3 days, it's gonna last to next week. After that it's CS time again ;P.
Lots of time for people to learn the different types of grenades then. ;D
GoL|Hyb: haha ;>
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: ... We know them pretty good. :) We are actually developing a new one. ;) Kebab Grenade!
Before we finish, is there a anything you'd like to say to the CS public? And perhaps a special scoop for UKT?
GoL|h0n1g-mTw: I'd like to thank all the GoL fans for the unbelievable support we got especially in the last weeks and the CPL for the great event. And for sure, the GoL players for making my work even more enjoyable. :) And of course UKT for a really nice interview. =)

This is a great interview, but it would have been even better if it was only Hyb that was interviewed, h0n1g doesnt have the intelligence or social skills to be presented to the public. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Spacebar ended up 9th, yes, Top 5 would be realistic and if you watched the CPL, you should know it was definitly within reach, but a bit of bad luck / nerves / bad preparation blew it. s*** happends, there will be more CPLs.
