.dNC (Does Not Compute) Interview

I'm joined here by three members of .dNC (Does Not Compute); Vertakill, Sev and Ninja(Psyo). First off, can you tell me a little about yourselves, and some of the history behind the clan?

dNC|Sev: Well in dNC, I'm more familiarly known as 'Ste', I'm 17, I started playing CS back in 5.2, just on lan though. The first clan I joined was a little known Irish clan =IR=, from there I joined =VL= where I first began to play a little in the UK scene, after =VL= I was in D&D (=BH=) then UsP along with Vertakill, Stinky, Timo, F2B Kam and Fred when I began to play a lot more in the UK scene. I was a bit of a clan wh0re and a noob back then, I spent more time Bunnyhopping than playing CS, and built up quite a reputation on XSReality with long bunnyjump demos, assault roof to roof to bridge, oilrig roof jumping etc. I'd like to think I was best in Europe at bh'ing along with CLX and Astrochimp, but then I joined dNC and CS1.3 came out, and that brought an end to that :/

dNC|Psyo: I'm 16 known as "Simon" or "Psyo" to the dnc lads. I started playing cs back in beta 6.6 and was a member of the Irish clans =AI= and .SoE. I joined .dNC. in December of last year.

dNC|Vertakill: My name is Gavin, I’m 16 and I've been in dNC since the start. I was in a lot of other clans, most of which were with other dNC lads. We've all played CS together since we began.

Looks like you most of you have known each other for quite a long time. How important do you think building up a strong relationship is in a clan?

dNC|Vertakill: Very. We're all good mates, and it helps a lot when things get tough. I live just down the road from Psyo, and the rest of the lads live about 10 mins drive away. We're still improving individually, and as a clan, so we're still very motivated. We've a few messers around the clan, Alex, Timo ,Snaggle to name three, so we always have a laugh no matter what the outcome.

dNC|Psyo: Very important as it keeps us together as a team and helps teamplay and co-ordination.

dNC|Sev: Well, I suppose being able to come into town on the weekend to meet up, practice and do tactics on LAN face to face is obviously something that provides us a big advantage in building teamwork etc. something we often take for granted too. Also, when you know your team-mates well, communication, definitely a crucial aspect of top level CS gameplay, becomes a lot easier and more natural especially over voice comms.

Yeah, Primary Strike was a good success, although there was some..er..moaning about the state of the computers there, what do you think about them, and the organising?

dNC|Vertakill: I thought the PC's were fine, I had a steady 70-99fps. I also decided on the day to use r_drawviewmodel 0 to get any extra bit of fps I could, even though I’d practised with it at 1, all in all, they were a lot better than what I’m used to at home (30-99fps + 20 choke). The organisation was great, we had some probs at start with mice + sens, but the organisers were sound and helped us out, so we're happy :)

dNC|Psyo: Well the organisation there was top notch and everything ran smoothly. Silus , dunkz and Myers did an excellent job. The PC’s were fine ( gf2 ultras etc. ) but unfortunately it was absolutely freezing where I was sitting. I also had to sit far away from my team due to computer/layout problems which hindered communication + teamplay a bit ;)

There were some very good clans at PS, what do you think made you so successful there? How much did you practise for it?

dNC|Psyo: I think our experience together on LAN is what clenched it, we did some practice on the days leading up to it having a PCW or two a night.

dNC|Sev: I think we did well at PS simply because we went with a lot of confidence, we trusted our abilities on LAN and knew we weren’t leaving with anything less than 2nd place. LAN is just so much easier than internet :/ The only thing I felt that would stop us reaching the final would be a really silly stupid mistake, which could happen in one map MR12. And yes we made a whole lot of stupid silly mistakes, and somehow made it through.

DNC|Vertakill: We weren’t all that great at PS2002, we played well against Noc, which was really our only good performance. We played shit in the final and were lucky to get away with a win at all. Our lead up to PS2002 was...bad to say the least. We played about 15 clans and got raped, which is an understatement :(. We then got together a few days before the event and worked hard for 2 days on LAN. We then travelled for like, 15 hours and event...We had hoped to do the LAN overnight but it was cancelled at last minute, and we'd no money, so we had to win to actually sleep somewhere that night also. (Our sponsor helped us out AGAIN at last second though so we were alright:)

Hrmmm, CB Eurocup looks tough, some good clans in there. How are you coping?

dNC|Psyo: Hmmmmmm ....... Badly!

Care to give any details? :)

dNC|Vertakill: Well, we've not approached it with great confidence or preparation. We should of practised, and the times we tried to we had games scheduled earlier an stuff, so its been a mess really :) I also couldn’t play DkH game so we had very little leadership and we had to make a last minute change in team which meant ppl not knowing positions properly etc. Bad is the answer I think :)

dNC|Sev: We got off to a good start, 39-9 against DTZ. They would appear to be the weakest in our group, so it isn’t that great :/. We lost to Infernum and DkH, which we kinda expected, so we didn’t practice at all for those games. But nocturne we expected to beat, after beating at lanarena etc. and with Renegade left and them down one of their best players, losing to Noc was a bit of an upset, but fair play to them we were just ridiculous.

dNC|Psyo: Seriously though, there's very tough competition this cup and we've played our hardest games now, so we're hoping for some more wins now.

Who do you think is your biggest rival in there?

dNC|Psyo: Hmm.... NiP ;)

dNC|Vertakill: We've no rivals in my opinion, they're all the enemy :P We're good friends with TeG and and Noc so I don’t think we've any 'rivals', maybe friendly ones though.

Do you think you stand a chance of getting any higher on the table?

dNC|Vertakill: Yeah sure. We hope to do well in our remaining matches, but we're not going to lose any sleep over not going through to the next stage :)

dNC|Psyo: Yeah!

dNC|Sev: I believe we have got the hardest competition out of the way, as long as we get the practice in now, and get in gear for the next onslaught I’m confident we can win the rest, but until that happens were not going anywhere.

Indeed, any CPL victories on the horizon do you think?

dNC|Vertakill: Hmm, CPL appearances, I doubt victories ...yet :)

dNC|Psyo: :) We certainly hope to prove ourselves at any LAN events we attend :D

dNC|Sev: I think we'll do well at future CPL's, I think you'd agree our LAN play is one of our strengths. :)

So what do you prefer at LANS, MR or CO?

dNC|Vertakill: MR. No bent running to die scenarios, or running away. MR is more realistic. CO is crap :P

dNC|Sev: Well, we were forced to cling to CO for a while after MR came in due to Opencup, we didn’t welcome the change to MR too much because it required a major change to our teamwork/tactics. But I think we've adjusted well now and I defo would hate having to go back to CO.

dNC|Psyo: MR as a player (you have the time to execute proper tactics and can take your time in 1v3's etc.) , CO as a spectator (fast and fun to watch :D )

Anyway, moving away from that. CS 1.4 - looking forward to it?

dNC|Psyo: Yeah, I am, can't wait to get rid of those pesky cheaters. Also the improved para looks very interesting :D

dNC|Vertakill: Yeah, maybe we'll finally get rid of cheaters, so we don’t suck so much online. And by then me and Psyo will probably have cable :D Oh oh, and the Para >:D The jumping things gonna screw me over big time because I jump a lot :(

dNC|Sev: I have played the beta release and I have to say I like it, Spectator in eyes is seriously l33t, people will see how truly shit I am when I spray. I just hope it arrives with some effective anti-cheat too. I jump a lot too, they'll have finally killed the bunny within :(

Do you think Valve and Co. are doing enough to stop those 'pesky cheaters'?

dNC|Psyo: No, not really.

dNC|Vertakill: They've done nothing so far haven’t they? (Bar 1.4)

dNC|Sev: I doubt it, these companies are usually more concerned about profit than fixing the bugs :/

dNC|Psyo: They should probably just lock a set vgui controls system and allow only that to be used with any alterations being considered a cheat. I know it's harsh but something drastic has got to be done!

Do you play on Public Servers at all?

dNC|Vertakill: Yeah, a lot lately, when I first joined dNC I only played matches, now I play a shitload of public, it’s fun :)

dNC|Psyo: Yeah I do occasionally, it's good fun playing with people you know and stat whoring :D

dNC|Sev: I don't play public CS as much as I used to, but when I'm not in a PCW or a War, you'll usually find me on our own public server or on the I-eS or Noc server strutting my stuff. But I don't put much effort in when I play public CS, I'm usually the aliased guy with a good shot on 10/7.

Hehe, what do you think about Pro-Gaming and its popularity increase recently?

dNC|Sev: I think CS is getting harder :(

dNC|Psyo: It's good to see more and more people getting interested in it but I don't think computer-games will be considered a sport for a long time yet.

dNC|Vertakill: Not sure to be honest, I'm young, I do my bit in school (occasionally) and I go out with my mates once a week, and every couple months I get to go somewhere, to play a game , with people I like :) IT cant be all bad ? And its good fun also :P

What do you mates think about your "skill" in CS? Do they know about it?

dNC|Psyo: Yeah, 1 or 2 of them do and play with me occasionally on public servers. They think it's cool :D

dNC|Vertakill: Hmm, I think I’ve told 1 or 2 of my mates, but it’s not something you run around school bragging about :) My other mates would just slag me off for an hour or so and then forget it a while later :)

dNC|Sev: Most of my good mates from school etc. have played CS, understand the game, and probably suck at it. I don’t think they understand 'Pro-Gaming' to the same extent though.

dNC|Sev: I have an ambition of getting my geography teacher or maths teacher into CS before the end of 6th year.

Lol, I know Psyo's got to feed his CS addiction, so before you go is there an exclusive scoop you can give to UKT?

dNC|Vertakill: Most of UKT's 'scoops' are made up on the spot, well this is a true one. Dave (aka PHB) has a fetish for Ste's (Sev) underwear. I believe he calls them manties. (Mens pants).

Erm, anything you want to say to the CS community?

dNC|Vertakill: Cheating is bad, m'kay.

dNC|Psyo: PHB likes Sev's manties.

dNC|Sev: I'd like the CS Community to stop cheating.

dNC|Psyo: Yeah, me too.

I'm sure if you ask them nicely, they'll stop. So, who do you think is the most erotic member of UKT?

dNC|Sev: I thought Myers was pretty sexy at PS, but he called out the wrong score near the end of the Ui match. It seems he only has the looks :( you sure cant have everything! :D
